Know what you know.

Marketing has been treated as a guessing game for too long. ESSAI exists to bring the same rigour to marketing that a bar exam brings to law or a board certification brings to medicine.

Why ESSAI?

Essai (eh-SAY) is French for test, trial, attempt.

It is the root of two English words. “Essay”: a structured exploration of what you know and believe, invented by Michel de Montaigne in 1580 when he sat down to honestly examine his own thinking. And “Assay”: a test of quality and composition, originally used to determine whether metal was truly gold.

That is exactly what this platform does. It helps you examine your marketing knowledge honestly, test it against proven frameworks, and discover what is gold and what needs work.

Every time you use ESSAI, you are making an essai: an attempt to know more, prove more, and grow further than you did yesterday.

Marketing has no bar exam.

Lawyers pass the bar. Accountants earn their CPA. Doctors sit board exams. But marketing? There is no objective standard. No certification that proves you actually understand the discipline.

So marketers rely on experience, instinct, and whatever they last read. Founders guess their way through positioning, pricing, and go-to-market. Professionals accumulate years of experience without ever discovering whether their knowledge is genuinely deep or dangerously patchy.

The result is an industry where confidence routinely outpaces competence, and where most people cannot name the framework behind their own strategy.

We built ESSAI to change that.

A platform built on proof, not opinion.

ESSAI is three things:

A knowledge base.

21 courses and 89+ frameworks distilled from the methodology behind the world's strongest brands. P&G's brand management system. Unilever's category playbook. Silicon Valley's product marketing discipline. 49 book sources from Beloved Brands to Crossing the Chasm. Every lesson is built around a framework you can apply the same day.

An assessment.

Scenario-based questions that measure how you think, not what you memorise. Each question puts you in a real marketing situation and asks what you would do — revealing what you truly understand versus what you have only heard of.

A growth path.

Four maturity levels from Foundations to Lead. Your assessment places you honestly. Your learning closes the gaps that matter most at your level. And your progress is measurable — not something you have to guess at.

Our mission

Replace marketing guesswork with structured knowledge. Give every founder and marketer an honest measure of where they stand and a proven path to get better.

Our vision

A world where marketing capability is measured, developed, and respected with the same rigour as any other professional discipline.

What we believe.

Rigour over opinion.

Every framework we teach has been tested by the world’s best companies. We do not make things up. We curate what has already been proven.

Honesty over comfort.

Your blind spots do not disappear because you ignore them. We show you the gaps clearly, because that is the only way to close them.

Clarity over complexity.

Marketing is not as complicated as people make it. If we cannot explain a framework in plain language, we have not understood it well enough to teach it.

Progress over perfection.

Essai means attempt. You are not supposed to get everything right the first time. The point is to measure, learn, and come back sharper.

Built for two kinds of people.

Founders

You are building something and marketing needs to work. But nobody handed you the playbook. You are making positioning, pricing, and go-to-market decisions based on instinct and Google searches. ESSAI gives you the same structured knowledge that P&G brand managers get on day one — organised for the decisions you face right now.

Marketing professionals

You have years of experience. But experience can create blind spots just as easily as expertise. ESSAI tests your applied understanding across 21 disciplines, reveals where your knowledge is genuinely deep versus where you have been operating on instinct, and gives you the frameworks to close the gaps.

Standing on the shoulders of the best.

We do not invent methodology. Every framework on ESSAI is drawn from the systems that built brands like Tide, Dove, and Slack. We curate, structure, and make testable the thinking that has driven billions in value — so you do not have to discover it all by trial and error.
